The season finale in Blancpain Endurance Series was run in treacherous conditions throughout the six hours of racing. And the race only got away after 20 minutes behind the safetycar due to the weather conditions.

Danish racers Insight Racing with Flex-Box showed strong pace throughout the practice sessions, posting times well within the top 10 overall. Qualifying went all wrong, though, as the team were looking to run in new brakes at the beginning of the session, as a rival team had borrowed their brakes.

Unfortunately soon after the beginning of the session the downpour started, and Dennis Andersen in the car tried to post a laptime on the soon-to-be very wet track but spun during his quick lap with brakes not quite up to speed yet.

A lowly starting position meant much work was to do for the Ferrari drivers, but the difficult conditions caught them out on a few occasions. The strong pace went unrewarded with a 27th spot at the chequered flag and a 13th spot in the Pro/Am cup.

Short highlights from the race can be viewed here.

Martin Jensen, teammanager and driver:

“Not the season finale, we were looking for! We were extremely optimistic after the bronze test and the practice session showing good pace. After that it all went wrong which is a great shame, but it was very tricky conditions.

We lost some time during the race due to driver errors, but with the weather we experienced we were not the only ones, if there is some comfort to take away from that.

Overall 2014 has been a season with a lot of problems. Now we are looking forward – we are already planning to run more tests for the coming season, as the breaks between races have been a bit too long for Dennis to feel comfortable in the car straight away at races. We are not lacking speed, but we need more durability in the team.”

Dennis Andersen, driver:

“The feeling was really good after the bronze test – the balance felt good, we were doing good laptimes. After that it went in the wrong direction setup wise.

The trouble in qualifying with our brakes were not a big issue. It was a long race – six hours should be plenty to move up the field. But I have to concede that my abilities fell short in the changeable weather. It was the first time this year with wet tires on the car, and I made too many basic errors.

We knew that more testing is needed to get more kilometers in the car and to be able to work on basic setup outside race weekends – but this weekend underlined that a lot. I am sorry for the team who did a brilliant job.”
