One pole position, two fastest laps and today’s podium in the Super GT class confirmed the power of the 2013 GT Open champion Montermini, the young Schirò and the Ferrari 458 GT2. Only a contact and the safety cars slowed the extraordinary pace of the team which is ready to plan the 2014 after a stunning season
Villorba Corse has confirmed its leadership in the International GT Open in the last round of the season at Barcelona with the 2013 champion Andrea Montermini, the young Niccolò Schirò and the powerful Ferrari 458 GT2. Montermini has set the pace of the Spanish weekend thanks to race-1′s pole position on Saturday and the fastest lap in both races. In Sunday’s race-2 the Villorba crew finished on the podium of the Super GT class after a great comeback from the back of the field. Started from the front row, Schirò marked the fastest lap during the first stint. Unfortunately, two safety cars slowed his pace and the 458 by Villorba Corse. In the second half of the race the 30” handicap to be paid by the team at the mandatory pit-stop for driver change forced Montermini to perform a thrilling comeback which ended Villorba’s stunning season.
“Despite we clinched the title last month at Monza - says Raimondo Amadio, Team Principal - we confirmed our team at the top again. The unfortunate contact which destroyed our race-1 and the two safety cars deployed in race-2, which limited our pace when we had to close our handicap’s gap, are a pity, but things like these are part of racing. Montermini confirmed himself as a champion and Schirò represents a nice revelation. He is a promising and very determined driver. This extraordinary season is the result of our careful planning and our teamwork, always perfect.”
