The Heart of Racing driversMario Farnbacher (Germany) and Alex Riberas (Spain) will start from pole position for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Continental Tire Road Race Showcase to run at Road America tomorrow afternoon.
Riberas took the No. 23 The Heart Racing Porsche out on the four-mile, 14-turn Road America circuit for qualifying. On his third flying lap he posted a time of 2:07.520 that was good for the pole position in GTD for tomorrow’s 4 p.m. ET race start. The pole is the team’s fourth of the year in GTD.
“I am very happy to be able to get the pole position for The Heart of Racing Porsche team today,” Riberas said. “The team is doing a great job with the car. In practice we were struggling, the team was able to make some adjustments and the car is running fast. We will start first and we will be looking to finish that way as well in the race.”
“I was focused on the race set-up of the car,” Farnbacher said. “Alex was focused on the qualifying set-up. We know that we have a good driving car for the race. We are lucky to have equally fast guys in the car that really helps in qualifying as we have shown. Qualifying pace has really nothing to do with race pace, the other cars like the Audi, Lamborghini and Viper are very fast. We will have to have good clean pit stops and strong strategy to win tomorrow.”
“Alex again showed he can learn these tracks quickly,” Alex Job, team owner, said. “Yes we are on pole, but on average speed with the top drivers in the class we are a fifth place car. Qualifying is a little deceiving at the moment. We will have to run a perfect race to finish up front this weekend.”
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Continental Tire Road Race Showcase will be broadcast live Sunday, August 28 on Fox Sports 1 starting at 4 p.m. EDT.
