B-Quik Racing enjoyed a superb finish to the Thailand Super Series (TSS) season last weekend on the hot and dry streets of Bangsaen with three wins out of three races in Super Car Class 2-GTM as well as bagging two Teams’ trophies.

For the final round of the TSS year, the 9th Bangsaen Thailand Speed Festival, we drafted Darryl O’Young back into the team to drive our #27 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup as the car’s usual occupant, Daniel Bilski, had a clashing engagement.

The experienced Hong Kong driver competed for us at Bangsaen last year and on that occasion, his debut on the street circuit, he impressively took two poles and two wins, so coming into this ninth edition of event he certainly knew the track as well as the car and team. Darryl is also in top form as he’s recently secured the GT Asia Series title and he arrived in Bangsaen off the back of a top ten finish in the FIA GT World Cup in Macau the weekend before, so he was ‘street ready’.

This was the fourth and final round of the TSS season and there was an extra novelty in the programme as for the first time ever Super Car Class 2-GTM enjoyed a ‘triple header’ format with races scheduled for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. That intensive programme, which followed on from free practice sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday and qualifying on Thursday, meant the drivers and teams were under extra pressure.

Also for this year, as the organisers’ close in on FIA Grade 3 homologation for the track, there were many upgrades made to the circuit although the overall layout of the 3.7 km circuit essentially remains the same.

Darryl picked up where he left off last year in last Thursday’s qualifying session as his three quickest lap times were good enough to put him pole for all three races while teammate Henk J. Kiks had a good session to place the team’s #26 Audi R8 LMS Cup very strongly on the grid for each of the races.

The extra Super Car Class 2-GTM race was slotted in on Friday afternoon immediately followed the running of the 6 hour Endurance Race and Darryl made a perfect start to the Super Car racing weekend with a well controlled lights to flag victory to kick off his return to Bangsaen in some style. It was an excellent opening race for B-Quik too as Henk also fought his way onto the podium and with both drivers comfortably on the rostrum steps that allowed us to collect the Teams’ trophy for Race 1.

The remainder of the weekend followed that dominant pattern as Darryl went on to win both of the remaining races, although he certainly had to fight much harder for the wins than in the opening race. Three wins out of three for the weekend actually made it five victories in a row when counting back to his two wins here last year and more than justified his selection by the team. In fact that was also five straight pole positions in Bangsaen for Darryl. And all from just five races here. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Meanwhile Henk got the hammer down in the #26 Audi to record three strong finishes for the weekend and his gritty and consistent driving around Bangsaen’s streets ensured that he racked up the extra points needed as we took away two Teams’ trophies to compliment the three Drivers’ honours.

The Dutchman actually had to drive with great care in the Audi as immediately after the race the car was swiftly packed into a shipping container and freighted by road south ready to take part in next weekend’s Sepang 12 Hours. Actually there was no respite for our hardworking crew as having prepared all four of our cars for track duties for six consecutive days they then worked right into the night on Sunday to pack up the Audi along with all our equipment into the shipping container, which had been delivered into the paddock, as well as additional equipment, including tyres and a refueling rigs, that had been trucked down from our raceshop in Bangkok to also be included in the large inventory heading for Sepang.

In the early hours of Monday morning the 40-ft container was lifted onto a flat bed truck and set off for Malaysia while the first wave of our technical staff are now on their way to Sepang to start preparing the car with just six days in hand before the track action gets underway.

Also featuring on the Bangsaen programme were our two Honda Brios driven as usual in the Super Eco category by Attapot Sriprom and Nattaphon Rattanawong. They enjoyed two excellent races to wrap up a good year.

Henk J. Kiks (#26 Audi R8 LMS Cup): “We’re pleased to end the year on a good note after a bit of a mixed season. It was great to have Darryl back in the team and he got straight down to work and did the job that we expected of him. The Audi ran very well and certainly with the new suspension we improved our benchmarks from last year and we were also able to use the weekend for some early testing for Sepang. That did mean taking care of the car with unforgiving barriers all round. To get two Teams’ trophies over the weekend was a real reward for all the hard work the crew put in and it really was a non stop week as the boys had to load the car and equipment up after the race and coordinate to bring down all the extra things we will require for an endurance race and they worked into Monday morning. But we go to Sepang with our spirits high and we’re motivated to make the podium and we are really looking forward to challenging the European teams that will be coming this year.”

Darryl O’Young (#27 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup): “B-Quik did a good job preparing the car so once I got in it I was really comfortable with it and I was where I was last year while I’ve also got more track knowledge now. There were some changes here and there but they were mainly safety changes which was a big improvement for the circuit so I’m glad the organisers’ are continuing to improve the track which is really good for Thai motorsport. The first race went pretty smoothly, there wasn’t too much pressure from the pack behind but in Race 2 there was a big difference. In the first race Voravud started at the back which took away some competition but in Race 2 the Lamborghini was also very fast off the start and able to catch up to me and I had to push hard to stay in front of him but he made a mistake, it looked like his tyres were dropping off a bit, and the Safety Car came out. After the restart Voravud was driving really well and I had to push really hard to keep the lead but all in all I’m very pleased. I’m really glad to be back again and hopefully I can be back again next year.”
