Strakka Racing is ready for first round of the 2015 World Endurance Championship at Silverstone, where it will make its competitive debut with the DOME S103 in the LMP2 class on home soil
After a successful trip to Paul Ricard for the FIA WEC Prologue test last month, it’s all racing from now on for the British team. The trip to France saw Strakka Racing rack up a further 1000km of mileage in the new DOME S103 and ended with a the fifth fastest overall time in the class, which this year has grown to eight full-season runners.
“It’s refreshing for all of us to be back in the FIA WEC competing again,” says Dan Walmsley, team principal. “It was great to interact with our fans again at the Prologue after a year off in the series last month, but the best is still to come. Silverstone is home for us, with our workshop being literally a couple of miles from the circuit, so there’s no better way to kick off the season with the new car than in front of our friends, family and fans in the UK. Our guys always relish the chance to bring people along to the race so they can see the team in action.
“It means so much for us to be back where we belong. There’s a real buzz surrounding all of us at Strakka Racing and we’re confident we’ll be able to put on a show.”
The round at Silverstone on the 12th of April is set to be Strakka Racing’s first race back in the World Endurance Championship since the 2013 season after a year developing the DOME S103.
The Silverstone-based outfit has enjoyed plenty of success at the 6 Hours of Silverstone, managing two class pole positions in LMP2 back in 2010 and 2011. It also won the class in 2010 and finished in the top five overall in 2012 running in LMP1, which was second among the privateer runners.
The formidable Le Mans class-winning British line-up of Nick Leventis, Jonny Kane, and Danny Watts will be back in action driving for the team too, as the trio look to build on their previous successes together, aiming to win the LMP2 World Championship and the class at the Le Mans 24 Hours once again this season.
“We’ve been champing at the bit to get back racing,” adds Nick Leventis, Strakka Racing team’s founder and driver. “We can’t wait to show everyone the new car, and hopefully compete for the title. It’s going to be an exciting year.”
The first round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone will take place on the 11th and 12th April.
