With the summer break coming to an end, activity is gearing up towards the Spa-Francorchamps round on 5-6 September, which will be rich in newsworthy novelties. As we enter in the final and decisive stretch of the season, AF Corse is preparing its assault for the title battles. The Italian squad has two line-ups in contention for the overall title: Raffaele Giammaria-Ezequiel Pérez-Companc and Michele Rugolo-Pasin Lathouras are only 4 and 5 points away, respectively, from the current leaders, Parente-Ramos (Teo Martín Motorsport McLaren 650S) and Ugo Maceratini, who supervises AF’s GT Open effort, confirmed that, regardless of other racing commitments, “these two cars will have as a priority to fight for the GT Open title”.
In the GT Am standings, Claudio Sdanewitsch-Ilya Melnikov and Filipe Barreiros are set for a nice final family duel, with the German-Russian pair leading by only 4 points over the Portuguese, who will race alone in Belgium, while to replace Melnikov, taken elsewhere, Sdanewitsch will have a local star as occasional team mate: Stéphane Lémeret. The 41-year-old journalist and racing driver, who is part of the GT élite since years, will make his debut in the series. He currently leads the GT Tour in France and was a Pro-Am winner at the recent Spa 24 Hours on an AF Ferrari F458, also driven by Lathouras.
Yannick Mallégol and Howard Blank, who almost never missed the Spa rendez-vous, will drive a fifth AF machine in Belgium.
