Statement from Risi Competizione on Matteo Malucelli accident

At 4:58 pm today (Saturday) the No.62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia (GTLM), driven by Matteo Malucelli of Italy, was involved in a high speed incident with the No.99 Gainsco Corvette DP at Turn 4 of Daytona International Speedway.

The driver was immediately attended on the scene by medical specialists and transferred to Halifax Health at Daytona Beach.  He is awake and communicating and is undergoing further observation.

Matteo Malucelli, aged 29 and from Forli in Italy, was taking part in his first Rolex 24 at Daytona but is an experienced Ferrari driver who competed with Risi Competizione in 2013 in the American Le Mans Series.

His team mates in the No.62 car were his fellow countrymen, Gianmaria Bruni and Giancarlo Fisichella plus Monegasque driver Olivier Beretta.  The car was immediately retired from the race.

The exact reasons for the accident are being fully investigated and a further update will be made in due course.
