SPV Racing are delighted to confirm their intention to participate in the 2016 European Le Mans Series, unveiling their all new Ligier JS P3 at the Doubletree by Hilton Resort & Spa Reserva del Higuerón last night.
With a host of guests attending the evening from far and wide, SPV Racing’s CEO Raul Garcia and Team Manager Lars GV Lindberg, also announced details of their new SPV Endurance Academy, which under the mentorship of former Formula 1 test driver Borja Garcia and experienced GT driver Alan Sicart, will mentor young talent through a comprehensive training programme both on and off the track, before they graduate to racing in the team’s LMP3 programme.
SPV Racing also confirmed their lead driver for 2016, with Borja Garcia making his European Le Mans Series debut in LMP3. The former Toyota Formula 1 test and reserve driver has been a multiple champion in many series throughout his career, before moving to the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series in 2013. Garcia is aiming to begin his own road to the 24 hours of Le Mans, seeing this opportunity as an important step in his racing career.
Lars GV Lindberg – Team Manager, SPV Racing:
“We are delighted to be here in the Doubletree by Hilton Resort & Spa Reserva del Higuerón to launch our new team into the European Le Mans Series for 2016. It’s great to have Borja Garcia joining us on our exciting Road to Le Mans, which we aim to achieve by 2019. Tonight has been about showing our plans, introducing our fantastic new Ligier JS P3 and giving a background to our new SPV Endurance Academy, which we hope will allow us to take young drivers to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”
Raul Garcia – CEO, SPV Racing:
“This evening has been very good. We are delighted to have so many people coming to join us including members of the Doubletree by Hilton Resort & Spa Reserva del Higuerón, Joaquín Castillo – General Manager from the Costa del Sol tourism board and Christophe Profit from Ligier. We have had a very busy few months preparing for this and having just received the car this week, we look forward to our first proper test in Barcelona.”
Borja Garcia – Driver, SPV Racing:
“For me, it is a pleasure to race with SPV Racing in the LMP3. I think this is a very good project, especially for the future over three or four years to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I am really enthusiastic about this championship, there are great drivers and for me the future looks good to become a professional driver in this category and this championship. We will see what happens this year, but we will be trying to win races.”
