The 24-hour race at the Nürburgring is fast approaching: this weekend’s 24h Qualification Race offers ROWE RACING the opportunity to practice in conditions identical to those that will be encountered at the highlight of the season at the end of May. The team from St. Ingbert, which competes with two BMW M6 GT3s, will receive prominent support from its partner BMW Motorsport, which is making two of its current DTM drivers and a BMW institution available for the six-hour race in the Eifel region.
In the #23 car, the two regular ROWE RACING drivers and BMW works drivers Philipp Eng (Austria) and Alexander Sims (Great Britain) will be ably assisted by BMW DTM driver Maxime Martin (Belgium). Martin was in action for the team at the opening round of the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring and will also be part of the team’s driver line-up for the 24-hour race.
Driving duties in the #22 car will be shared by three BMW Motorsport works drivers: Marco Wittmann, current DTM driver and 2014 DTM champion, Jens Klingmann and Jörg Müller (all Germany). As well as completing Formula 1 tests and achieving great success in such series as the World Touring Car Championship, the experienced Müller has also won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring with BMW on two occasions in the past. The race starts at 12:00 on Sunday 17th April.
ROWE RACING team principal Hans-Peter Naundorf: “It is good of our partner BMW Motorsport to support us with such prominent and high-class drivers at the qualification race. To work alongside a DTM champion like Marco Wittmann or an old hand like Jörg Müller will definitely be a valuable experience for our team. We hope, above all, to get plenty of track time with our two BMW M6 GT3s and our drivers this weekend. We want to get to know our cars better and, looking ahead to the 24-hour race, to sort out a few things and try out various set-ups. It goes without saying that it would also be a pleasant side effect if we could also secure our places in the top-30 qualifying for the 24-hour race.”
