Hot on the heels of its victory at VIR in the penultimate round of the American Le Mans Series, former Petit Le Mans class winner Risi Competizione now turns its attention to the final round of the American Le Mans Series, Petit Le Mans.
To supplement its regular season pairing of Olivier Beretta, one of the most experienced and successful drivers in the series’ history, and Matteo Malucelli, 2013’s speedy newcomer, Risi Competizione is delighted to announce the addition of Robin Liddell to its line-up in the No.62 Ferrari 458 Italia for the 1,000 mile Road Atlanta event.
Scotsman Liddell, 39, who resides in the UK is no stranger to North American GT racing and has extensive multi-class experience in the ALMS as well as, in more recent years, the Grand-Am Rolex Series. Highlights include GT victory at the 2004 Daytona 24, six LMP2 class wins in the ALMS including one at Petit Le Mans, and being three-time runner up in the Grand-Am GT class.
Giuseppe Risi commented: “I’m very pleased to welcome Robin to Risi Competizione for Petit Le Mans. He comes to us with a reputation for being fast and reliable and has a great deal of relevant racing experience. As a team which has known a good deal of success at this particular endurance race, we know that knowledge will be invaluable in our bid for victory in the highly competitive GT category.”
Robin Liddell added: “Needless to say I’m thrilled to join the Risi team, especially as I’ve known so many of the guys there for so many years. The Ferrari has got to be one of the most attractive race cars ever and, coming off the back of the win at VIR, it’s a great opportunity for me to race with true contenders for victory.
“It was the American Le Mans Series which first brought me to race in the US, and of course Petit Le Mans is going to be the last ALMS race. It’s such a fantastic event: just the right length in my opinion, the track is great fun, the crowd is great and it’s a super event. It will be my first time racing a Ferrari so that’s a big tick in any racing driver’s box!”
