Former FIA World Touring Car Champion (WTCC) and experienced GT racer, Rob Huff, will once again take part in the ADAC Zurich Nürburgring 24 Hour race on the iconic Nordschliefe circuit next month (14-17 May) alongside his LADA SPORT ROSNEFT commitments.
As part of the illustrious support package to the endurance classic, the WTCC will make its debut on the globally renowned circuit that stretches 12.93miles through Germany’s Eifel Mountains and has earned a notorious reputation as the world’s most demanding race track.
As well as piloting his LADA SPORT ROSNEFT Vesta TC1, Huff will also get behind the wheel of Team Premio’s Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 equipped with Dunlop Tyres, which will be assisted by the experienced MCG Racing outfit under the guidance of Hans-Peter Naundorf.
The car will be raced by an all-pro driver effort, with Huff sharing the driving duties with a multi-national line-up of Phillip Frommenwiler, Kenneth Heyer and Christian Krognes in what is hoped to be a front-running entry.
Huff’s previous experience at the Nordschleife includes class victories in the VLN and 24 Hour qualification race in an Audi TTRS in 2014, and hopes to add further success in 2015 with both the LADA Vesta and SLS AMG GT3.
“I am very much looking forward to a busy weekend at ‘The Ring’,” said Huff. “I am thankful to the team and Dunlop for the opportunity to take on the 24 Hour race in front-running machinery, which I think is worthy recognition of my endurance outings last year at the Nordschliefe and elsewhere where I achieved five podiums in six starts, including a second place finish in an SLS at the Dubai 24 Hour race.
“Knowing both the Mercedes and the track well, I am hoping to settle right in and get a strong result in both the WTCC event and 24 Hour.”
In 2014, Huff completed in both the WTCC round in Spa-Francorchamps and the ADAC Zurich Nürburgring 24 Hours, commuting between venues for practice sessions and race stints. This time the WTCC race will take place on Saturday (16 May) morning, prior to the headlining 24 Hour event in the afternoon, so logistically the schedule is less punishing, but the racing is expected to be just as tough with the challenges faced by Huff in racing his LADA Vesta in the 12.93mile circuit.
Qualifying for the ADAC Zurich Nürburgring 24 Hour is scheduled to get underway at 19.25 (DST) on Thursday (14 May), with the headline race at 16.00 on Saturday (16 May).
