In 2006, Reiter Engineering from Kirchanschöring was one of the first teams to back the then new FIA GT3 category founded by SRO Chairman Stephane Ratel.
Ratel expands his portfolio of racing series’ with the introduction of the SRO Sports Club for the 2015 season. The new sprint series is reserved for drivers possessing a maximum of the FIA Bronze status. GT racing newcomers are also welcome, like gentlemen drivers.
Reiter Engineering aims to be one of the first teams to register for this new series this time as well. Which is why, two of the newly developed Gallardo EXTENSO will race permanently in the SRO Sports Club.
“We expect to see at least four Reiter Gallardo in the new GT Sports Club,” says Hans Reiter. “The new series has attracted great interest among our customers, and to such an extent that we plan another two Reiter Gallardo R-EX for customer teams in 2015.”
“I’m very grateful that Stephane has established this series. As a result, we have the opportunity as team to regain some of the regular customers lost of the last few years. The majority of the customers had lost some of their enthusiasm for motor racing because of the enormous increase in costs and the corresponding tougher competition. Because neither professionals nor semi-professionals or even upcoming young talents are permitted in the GT Sports Club, the focus of attention is now about the customers having fun while racing. Ultimately, I expect a kind of business-to-business championship, where business men battle against business men on the finest race tracks. You could almost describe the series as the Mediterranean championship.”
The SRO Sports Club calendar is comprised of four events in its inaugural season:
18-19 April : Barcelona
20-21 June : Paul Ricard
05-06 September : Algarve
03-04 October : Misano
Every race weekend consists of one free practice and qualifying session and two races of 25 and 40 minutes without a pit stop. All the track activity is staged within 24 hours.
