Barwell’s MP Motorsport line up are set to contest in the British GT Championship’s Silverstone 500 race next weekend in their Lamborghini Huracan GT3. This one off race will see the return of Mark Poole and Richard Abra to the championship, and it will mark the first time that the Barwell Motorsport team have all three of their Huracan GT3 chassis battling in the same race. “Historically it’s been a great race and after competing there in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup a few weeks ago, I’m really looking forward to it!” commented Abra. “Mark Poole had originally chosen to drive with someone much more Italian and better looking than me, but he quickly realised that I have the keys to his new car!”
Following their immediate withdrawal from the 2016 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, Poole and Abra will now be heading to Le Mans next week to compete in the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup. As released in the official entry list last month, the MP duo will compete in the ‘Road to Le Mans’ in a one-hour battle on the Saturday morning, before the famous 24 Hour race begins. As well as the Le Mans 24H support race, the Barwell drivers will contest the bulk of the remainder of the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup calendar. After recently completing a successful test on the Michelin tyre, Poole and Abra are very confident about the upcoming races.
Barwell Motorsport is also looking to enter the MP Motorsport-backed Lamborghini in further endurance races this season, which could include the 24 Hours of Barcelona in September, and the Gulf 12 Hours at Yas Marina in December.
Abra believes himself and Mark are well prepared for the new direction they are headed in for 2016 and are looking forward to the challenges ahead. “As you can tell by this pretty full on programme we are really enjoying the new Huracan GT3, so a massive thanks to the Barwell team and the guys at Lamborghini Squadra Corse for the support and for making it all possible.”
