After announcing the line-up for their first GT Open entry as early as mid-February, Ombra Racing have now completed the preparations for their 2014 campaign and are glad to announce Alan Sicart and Stefano Costantini as the drivers who will sit behind the wheel of the team’s second Ferrari 458 GT3. A 27-year-old from Catalunya, Sicart is a major name in the Spanish endurance scenario: after beginning his career in single-seater racing, Alan switched to closed wheels in 2009, and podium finishes and wins immediately started to flow. In 2011 he was crowned Champion of the “Campeonato de España de Resistencia” (CER), and through the years he has proved his talent driving both GT cars and saloons. With GT Open he is aiming to complete a further step in his path, making a name for himself in international racing.
Alongside Sicart, Stefano Costantini will return to the team after enjoying an amazing GT Open debut season in 2013. One of the quickest drivers in the Italian Porsche Cup in 2011 and 2012 Stefano raised the bar last year, deciding to tackle one of the most competitive environments in motorsport. After proving that he’s up to the task both in terms of pace and racecraft, his objective for 2014 is to build on last year’s experience to gain even more momentum.
Davide Mazzoleni (Team Manager): “I’m really glad that we were able to put together such a competitive line-up for our third GT Open campaign. We feel that after last year’s experience the team is definitely ready to achieve, and I believe that we have the right driver pairings to aim for the timesheets’ top lines. Stefano is a very well known quantity to the team: last year he made a groundbreaking GT Open debut but his huge talent means that there’s still room for improvement, and in 2014 we expect him to make the most of that.
Alan’s CV says it all, he’s a very talented guy that has the potential to raise a lot of eyebrows in the paddock. He made an impression on us in testing thanks to both a staggering pace and the right attitude, something that allowed him to immediately get along with our staff. We look forward to having the opportunity to work together for one full season”.
