One week before the first race of the Sareni United Camaro GT at the ADAC GT Masters in Oschersleben, Germany (31 March – 1 April 2012) the car was thoroughly tested again after further modifications. British GM factory driver Oli ver Gavin was flown in specifically to check on the progress of the muscle car. “Head developer Hans Reiter has built the Camaro into a great racing car. Driving the Camaro was great fun and it is very obvious that he and his team have a lot of experience. There were some small problems during the test which they solved quickly”.
Cora Schumacher, wife of former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher and a race driver herself, was invited by the team to take part in the test. She got the chance to test-drive the Camaro in perfect weather, with temperatures at about 20 degrees Celsius. “At first, I had to get used to the enormous power and size of the car. So far I have competed in the Mini Challenge series and this year I am going to compete in it (Mini Trophy) again. Initially, it was not easy driving the Camaro but I started to feel more comfortable and was able to improve my lap times. Hans Reiter’s team is very professional and supported me well. I hope to be able to take part in more tests this year because driving a GT3 car was fun”, says Cora Schumacher.
Hans Reiter: “We have made a lot of progress with the Camaro. Now it is time for the finishing touches so that the car is ready for its debut race at the GT Masters next week. Uwe Geipel’s team Yaco will use the car and they are well prepared. I am especially pleased that Cora Schumacher accepted our invitation to test-drive the car. She did pretty well considering that she only competed in races driving the Mini so far and the Camaro has a higher torque at start-up than the Mini at maximum power. Cora got used to the car very quickly and improved a lot during the two test days.”
