Former two-time British GT Championship winner, Barwell Motorsport, is delighted to announce that it has acquired a potent new weapon for its 2012 international GT3 title campaigns – the ex-Marc VDS Racing BMW Z4 GT3. This is the car that won the last two rounds of the 2011 Blancpain Championship, and was also on pole position for the 24 Hours of Spa. The BMW Z4 has consistently proven over the last two years that it can win in all of the major GT series, including Blancpain, FIA GT3 and also in the Dubai 24 Hours event, and Barwell full intends to extend its victory tally into British GT.

Barwell is currently in serious discussions with a number of potential candidates for the remaining BMW Z4 seats available, in both its British and Blancpain campaigns including the blue riband Spa 24 Hours event. Amongst those interested parties are the drivers representing Ecurie Ecosse (Alasdair McCaig, Olly Bryant, Andrew Smith and Joe Twyman), who brought the famous name back to international sportscar racing with a Barwell-run Aston Martin DBRS9 in last year’s Spa 24 Hours. Barwell is keen to hear from all potential drivers who are serious about mounting a challenge for the Championship titles in both of the series it will contest.

Barwell MD, Mark Lemmer, comments: “I can’t wait to get going with the BMW Z4 GT3; in my opinion, it’s the best chassis in GT3 so should be the perfect bit of kit for British GT. We have won championships before with BMW and I’m sure with the right drivers on board we can win some more!”

Barwell Motorsport established itself as one of the leading teams in GT3 racing from the inception of the category in 2006, winning the British GT3 driver’s title in that year and following that up with the Team’s Championship in 2007. Since then it has been involved in race-winning campaigns in British GT with the Aston Martin DBRS9 and Ginetta G50Z GT3, during the past three seasons. The Surrey-based team has also successfully completed two Spa 24 Hours GT3 events, claiming fourth in GT3 in ’09 and ninth in the Pro-Am class in 2011.
