Tom Kimber-Smith is delighted to announce that his driving services have been retained by Greaves Motorsport for the 2012 season. Tom and Greaves enjoyed a highly fruitful partnership this year, guiding their Zytek-Nissan to the Le Mans Series LMP2 crown and victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Tom will partner single-seater graduate, Alex Brundle (son of former Le Mans winner, Martin), in the 2012 European Le Mans Series, with a third driver to be announced by the team in due course. This crew will drive a Nissan-powered Zytek LMP2 prototype, similar to the car that was so successful in 2011. Kimber-Smith will also be a key part of Greaves Motorsport’s test programme in the early part of the season, especially important as many new rule changes are being introduced to the championship in 2012. Tom’s deal includes contesting the full European Le Mans Series championship with Greaves, but the Peterborough-based team doesn’t have a seat available for next year’s Le Mans 24 Hours and thus the 27-year-old double Le Mans class winner does not currently have a berth for the 2012 classic.
Greaves Motorsport’s Team Manager, Jacob Greaves, commented:“The whole team is delighted that we are able to continue our partnership with Tom into 2012. His contribution to the team and its successes in 2011 has been second to none. We are confident that with drivers of the calibre of Tom and Alex Brundle on the roster driving our Zytek-Nissan, we are well placed to achieve our potential in 2012.”
Tom Kimber-Smith said of the announcement: “I am excited to continue racing with Greaves Motorsport next season. The team has done a fantastic job in preparing a fast and reliable car in 2011; this was a major part of the success that we enjoyed during the year. I am really looking forward to the programme for the 2012 season.”
