A première season can only hardly be better then Christian Hohenadels first season in the GT1 World Championship. In his first season in a championship, which features the best sportscar driver’s of the world, the 35-year old German clearly made his mark. With the French team Hexis AMR, Hohenadel claimed the teams world championship-title and finished brilliant third in the driver’s championship in an Aston Martin DBR9 together with teammate Andrea Piccini.
“The result of the final weekend of the season in Argentina was just perfect. With the third position in the driver’s championship and the teams title, we reached all our goals in the final round in San Luis”, Hohenadel said. „I had only hoped for a better result in the two final races. We had the quickest car at San Luis, but could only hardly show this.” In the first race, Hohenadel suffered a puncture and finished 14th , in the second and final race of the season, Hohenadel finished 5th despite loosing the front bonnet after a contact with a Corvette in the early stages of the race.
The team championship then was a great bonus at the end of a spectacular and exciting season for Hohenadel. “We didn’t expect to win the team championship and everybody was a bit perplexed when we heard about this. But when we got the confirmation, it was an unbelievable feeling. It was for sure one of the most emotional moments for me this season.”
After his debut season in the GT1 World Championship, Hohenadel makes a very positive balance. At his “home race” in May at the Sachsenring, the Aston Martin-driver claimed his first ever world championship victory in only his fourth GT1-event. „I’m more then pleased with my first season in the GT1 World Championship. The season went far better then expected. We were very successful and also personally, it was a very important year for me as I learned a lot this season. I’m really happy that I got the chance to race in this very high profile championship with a phenomenal team like Hexis AMR and together with a great teammate like Andrea Piccini.”
As the racing season already came to an end for Hohenadel, there is still one official appointment left. For the second consecutive year, Hohenadel will be honoured at the official FIA prize giving ceremony, held at New Delhi / India in December, for finishing third in the FIA GT1 World Championship.
