When the checkered flag fell on the American Le Mans Series Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock, Intersport Racing had positioned themselves right back in it with their second LMPC podium this season. Tomy Drissi and Kyle Marcelli finessed their way to a third place finish Saturday driving the Intersport Racing No. 89 Rise of the Planet of the Apes / Muscle Milk / Lafarge /DynaPep LMPC car. The team also celebrated a podium with Ricardo Vera’s third place finish in the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites race.

“This turned into a total street fight,” said Tomy Drissi. “In the first part of my stint, traffic was so bunched up you literally had to fight for every inch of track. Bumper-to-bumper doesn’t even describe it. In the braking zones, on the front straight… it didn’t matter, you literally had cars on all four sides.”

“As a driver in endurance racing, you have to be a role player,” added Tomy. “I knew one of my key responsibilities was to run a good hard stint and bring back the car ready for my co-driver to take to the finish. I did my part and Kyle did his. He drove a beautiful second half and got us back on the podium. I’ve got a great co-driver in Kyle and Jon Field is fantastic. Everyone at Intersport is there to win and have fun. As a driver, you couldn’t ask for a better environment. I’m having a blast.”

“It was good to be back at the track with 2 cars,” said team manager, Brian Alder. “Kyle and Tomy in the No. 89 Rise of the Planet of the Apes / Muscle Milk LMPC car had a great race with their 2nd consecutive podium.”

Jon Field made his return to cockpit driving the No. 37 Lenco Mobile LMPC with James Kovacic. While the car dropped out during a late race pitstop, Field set the LMPC fast lap of the race and was leading at the time of the pitstop.

“That was real unfortunate for Jon and James,” said Alder. “While we were leading the race with the No. 37 Lenco Mobile LMPC their day was cut short due to a starter failure on our last pit stop of the day. The car was great, though, and Jon was awesome.”
