A home race can’t be better then Christian Hohenadel´s home Grand-Prix at the Sachsenring. Christian Hohenadel took his first race win in the GT1 World Championship on home soil at the German round at the scenic Sachsenring in his Hexis AMR-Aston Martin DBR9. After the victory in front of 45.000 spectators, Hohenadel and teammate Andrea Piccini also took the point lead in the GT1 World Championship.

The way to the first win of Hohenadel in the GT1 World Championship at the Sachsenring was no joy walk. After Piccini made contact with the Armco barriers during Qualifying, Hohenadel/Piccini hat to start from the very back of the grid into the Qualifying Race. With a faultless race, the two Hexis AMR-driver steadily worked through the field and finished the Qualifying Race in great fifth position.

In the Championship Race, Hohenadel had a pretty perfect start. The reigning GT3 European Champion could avoid carnage in the first corner and found himself in second place after the first lap. Hohenadel then attacked the leading Aston Martin of Stefan Mücke. Already his second run on Mücke was successful and Hohenadel could take the lead during a Championship Race of the GT1 World Championship for the very first time. Hohenadel managed to built a gap on his pursuers and after a perfect pit stop by the Hexis team and faultless race of Andreas Piccini, he claimed his first ever World Championship win. Hohenadel, Hexis AMR and the Sachsenring, that has already been a success story back in 2008, when Hohenadel and the Hexis Teams took victory in an ADAC GT Masters race in Saxony.

“Unbelievable! I have never expected that we would be able to win on this track,” an over happy Hohenadel said. „After the start, I took second place and put pressure on the leader. I was much faster and already my second attack on him was successful. During the second part of the race when Andrea was in the car, I was really nervous and hoped that everything worked out fine. Andrea made no mistake and drove a great race. The first World Championship victory is simply fantastic. I can’t believe it and I also can’t believe that I’m the new leader of the World Championship!”

The next race brings Hohenadel on 5h June as Championship leader to Silverstone in England, the home of his Aston Martin-racecar.
