The first race of the second FIA GT1 World Championship season will take place in Abu Dhabi on March 26th, 2011. After a nonsatisfying 2010 season with Nissan, Swiss Racing Team with team principal Othmar Welti and teammanager Erich Kolb will participate with two Lamborghini Murciélago. The successful cars were taken over from GT1 team Reiter Engineering.
The first pilot competing for the team is once again Karl Wendlinger (AUT) who raced for Swiss Racing Team in the FIA GT1 last season. Another pilot will be announced shortly.
“We have worked hard during the winter break to make the change to Lamborghini possible. We were running out of time. It was very close. After all, we had to convince our sponsors that we would be more successful with the new brand. That is why we want to assign good pilots for the remaining places in the cockpit. And again we are pressed for time. However, we are in a good place at the moment,” says Othmar Welti.
On March 11th the cars will travel to Abu Dhabi by plane.
Swiss watch manufacturer Blancpain who are already well known in GT motorsports is a new partner.
