FUA Racing announce today an existing program which will see the Qatar based team race in sportscar racing. FUA Racing is looking at some selected Le Mans Series races for the 2011 season.
The plan is to run a Formula Le Mans, a prototype designed by ORECA. Launched in 2009 by ACO, organisers of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, Formula Le Mans is a monotype category now part of Le Mans Series and American Le Mans Series where team have to mixed experienced and gentleman drivers. “FUA Racing has experience in various motor racing championships in the UAE” says Paul O’Neal, Team Manager of FUA Racing. “The team has always wanted to race in Europe and specially in Le Mans. The evocation of Le Mans had a special and stong signifficance in getting involved with a Formula Le Mans car . FUA Racing wants to do things right and gain experience gradually. 24 Hours of Le Mans are famous in UAE. We hope to have the supply of “Qatar 2022″, with the FIFA World Cup.”
On a long terme side, the target of FUA Racing is clear : be part of Le Mans 24 Hours in prototype. “We want to move up gradually to reach the pinnacle of endurance, with the highest category, the LM P1″ continues O’Neal. “We all know that will not happen right away. We will be patient and we hope to compete in Le Mans, which would be a first for a Qatar team. Seeing an arabian team in Le Mans would be a good thing for the country and other teams. Many UAE teams want to race in Europe, which have a high level”, concluded Paul O’Neal.
O’Neal and several members of FUA Racing – who have racing expériences at 24 Hours of Le Mans and in FIA-GT – will be at Official Le Mans Series Test Day next month in South of France.
