Fresh from its Formula Drift Championship held on the same track last Saturday, Falken Tire, well-regarded for its high performance tires, hopes to repeat with a win in the highly competitive GT2 class of the 2010 American Le Mans Series. The car entered by Team Falken will be its brand new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, which debuted at Sebring in March and will be entered by Porsche works and Falken team driver Wolf Henzler and his partner, team driver Bryan Sellers. The team will compete on specially prepared Falken AZENIS RT slicks.
The 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is painted in traditional teal and blue Falken livery, and will be supported by a full complement of Falken technical representatives in the Long Beach paddock. But it’s the drivers who will do the heavy lifting come qualifying and race time. “I know Wolf is familiar with this challenging course,” said Bryan Sellers, who returns to Long Beach in his second year with Team Falken, “but depending on weather conditions and track usage, the surface can be different any time of the day. Fortunately, our AZENIS RT slicks have great traction, thanks to their modified race compound.”
“We learned a lot at the tough Sebring track,” said Rod Everett, Falken team manager. “But we have a fantastic race car, extremely qualified drivers, a superb tire, and determination that extends for miles. We’ve taken every opportunity to practice and improve as we got ready for this weekend’s race on what we consider our ‘home track,’ Long Beach.”
Long Beach also will see Falken’s tire team booth and marketing display supported by its Falken Spokesmodels who will oversee giveaways of Falken-branded items.
“Being at Long Beach is very important to Falken as the crowds are always huge,” stated Andrew Hoit, Director of Marketing, Falken Tire. “ALMS is an excellent series and the perfect platform for Falken to demonstrate the strength and capabilities of our technology.” Hoit added, “We recognize the competition this year is going to be extremely tough, and we knew that going in, because we wanted to be able to challenge the factory teams as well as the privateers, and our competitors, the other tire manufacturers, and that’s why it makes perfect sense for Falken to mount a full assault this season.”
