As Brumos Racing returns to the scene of their last win at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the entire team is feeling confident. As the Homestead race returns to its traditional spring time slot for 2010, the memory of last year’s season finale is fresh in everyone’s mind. Hurley Haywood and Joao Barbosa drove the Brumos #59 Porsche Riley to an exciting victory in that race, wrapping up the 2009 season the same way it began – with a Brumos car in the Winners’ Circle.
Long before their 2009 win, Brumos enjoyed success at Homestead, scoring the first overall win by a Daytona Prototype there in 2003. This year it will be up to David Donohue and Darren Law to bring the Brumos colors back to Homestead’s Victory Lane. David Donohue has good memories of his own at Homestead, including capturing the first of several pole positions he earned in 2008 for Brumos’ #58 entry.
“Homestead has been one of our best tracks historically,” he said, “especially since the Daytona Prototypes were introduced. The way the track is laid out allows you to run more with a wide open throttle which seems to work well for us. In the past few years we seemed to always run into bad luck and couldn’t capitalize on our dvantages, but the #59′s win last year certainly changed that. After our problems at the Rolex 24 this year we have a bit of a hole to dig out of to catch up in points, but we are taking it one race at a time. We hope that Homestead will be the first of many races where we can make up some ground. We plan to capitalize on the momentum of the #59′s win at Homestead last season and keep Brumos in contention for the championship.”
Darren Law, who scored his first career Rolex Series pole at Homestead in 2005, was equally optimistic.
“We are really excited to get back to racing now that Daytona is behind us,” he said. “Brumos obviously has a good setup for the Homestead track considering the #59′s win last year. Our #58 car also did well there – we just missed making the podium in 2009. It is particularly critical that we roll off the truck in good shape for this race. This is going to be a busy track weekend and we have limited practice time for our event, so there won’t be a chance to make a lot of adjustments. I know our guys are working hard to get it right for us, so we will be ready. We have seen some great racing action at Homestead over the years so I am confident that trend will continue and Brumos will be back out in front again this year.”
