A few months ago, Phoenix Corse had made known their wish to participate in the GT4 European Cup with two Maserati Gran Turismo MC GT4s, with an added bonus of running in the 24 Hours of Spa. Afterall, these plans have been scrapped. The Tenerife-based team has shifted gears to prepare 2011 and an arrival in the Le Mans Series’ LMP2 category.
The future program is still confidential, but a member of the team agreed to give us a few more details: “We will not participate in any races this year because we’d like to prepare for 2011. Starting this year, the team will run different tests to develop the car with a hybrid version considering the engine rules change for 2011. The decision to move to LMP2 was taken with our partners. We were already planning to participate in the class starting in 2011, but we prefer to give our full attention to this program now so that we may fight for the title right from the start and not ‘lose’ a year while learning.”
Phoenix Corse would like to invest in the LMP2 class: “We will participate in the Le Mans Series championship in 2011, 2012 et 2013. We’d also like to be at Le Mans in 2012 and 2013. It’s a little early to talk about drivers but they will come directly from GP2. In addition, we will have two Radical SR3s for the Radical Championship, in order to have a junior team.”
