Panoz driver in 2005, before racing with Team PTG in a BMW M3 in 2006, Bryan Sellers came back in American Le Mans Series this season. He raced three times with Team Falken Porsche. After a learning season for the team, he will again be there in 2010, driving a new RSR.
Bryan, you made your come-back in ALMS this year. Do you think the championship has changed ?
It was a pleasure returning to the ALMS it is the pinnacle of racing, and the only true place to rate your results against some of the best drivers and manufactures in the world. The Level of competition has changed significantly over the past couple years. Every manufacture has stepped their level of commitment up and demanded the most of themselves and their drivers. With new companies such as Falken Tire coming into the equation it has caused other manufactures to continue to develop tires as opposed to sit dormant.

About the season, was it difficult to race only three times in ALMS ?
It was difficult racing only three times throughout the season, perhaps not in the way everyone expects however. There are two sides to the difficulty the first one being the love of racing, when you are a driver for a profession it is a good thing to have to go to work so missing out on the races was hard on a personal level. The second side to missing races was the fact that when we came back to the series late in the year we were still learning how to work as a team at the races and all the other competitors were in championship form, so we had to be exceptionally smart on how to maximize our track time and sessions.
You made lot of testing between the races. As a driver, was it a new approach for you ?
We did a lot of test days, and it was a slightly new approach in the fact that we were by ourselves most of the time and didn’t have anyone to judge ourselves on, however from a driving perspective it was the same because we are expected to drive as hard and as fast as we can at all times to give the most accurate data as possible.
Was it difficult to be alone on track ?
It was difficult to be alone at the track because you are only judging on yourselves. The problem with that is you can see gains in lap time but its hard to tell how big the gains truly are and how much more we need to gain to be successful.
About your season, what is your feeling on your three races ?
All the races were very different! Each race was chosen to evaluate our tires on different surfaces. For example; Long Beach is a low grip concrete bumpy circuit, Road Atlanta is a medium grip smooth circuit, and Laguna Seca is a low grip smooth circuit. Each one of these tracks corresponds to other races that we will do in the ALMS and gave us the ability to test as efficiently as possible.
Overall, are you happy about the performance of the car ?
We were very happy with the performance of the car, however we were not satisfied and will not be satisfied until be can stand on the top of the podium. There are gains to be made in all aspects of our program and Falken Tire has taken the initiative to show their commitment by purchasing a new 2010 Porsche RSR.
In 2010, you will be again with Team Falken, but with a full time program. What will be your target ?
Our target will be constant improvement! No matter what the results. We want to be a lead team in the ALMS we want people to know we are there and know we can fight for wins. Its difficult to set goals as it were because everybody in the program is involved for one reason and that’s too win. Reality tells us it will be a long road to hoe but we are up for the challenge.
Do you think you could fight with factory teams ?
I do believe that we will be a competitor for next year. The commitment level has been increased and the support from Japan is outstanding, we have all the tools to make a successful program now we have to get them all to work together.
And last question, will you be back at Le Mans ?
That’s a hard question to answer, but the only thing I can tell you is that everyone involved in the ALMS wants to go to Le Mans and that does not discount Team Falken Tire!
