Fischer Racing is heading to Zolder this weekend (23.10. – 25.10.09) for the final round of the 2009 FIA GT3 European championship. The two races at the former Grand-Prix track in Belgium conclude this year’s European championship. Fischer Racing will start with one Ford GT for Christoffer Nygaard (Denmark) and Florian Gruber (Germany).

The 4184 meter short track near the border to Germany is a new territory for most drivers of the FIA GT3 European championship, as the EC makes the first stop ever at Zolder. The circuit offers some very fast and demanding corners, but requires also hard braking in the slower parts. Thus the track should be well suited for the Fischer Racing-Ford GT, with it’s good aerodynamic and excellent brakes. What makes the two last race of the season even more exciting, is the combined race with the Belgian GT championship. The Belgian cars will race in the same race as the European championship cars, but in a separate grid. So an expected 40+ cars will start into the two last rounds of the season.

“I don’t know the track in Zolder yet”, Christoffer Nygaard looks tensely at the season finale. “With this big number of cars, it will become very difficult, as the track is really short and not too wide. Our target for Zolder is to finish the season third in the drivers championship. We saw during this season that a lot can happen in the EC, so we aim for as much points as possible in the two races. We finally also need a little bit of luck to end up third in the championship.”

“In the last round at Le Castellet we had all bad luck in the world,” said Team principal Hardy Fischer. “Our team worked so hard after the French round. In Belgium we would like to finish our first season in the FIA GT3 European championship with a good result.”

Fischer Racing starts at Zolder with one Ford GT, the second car was damaged during last weeks ADAC GT Masters finale at Oschersleben and wasn’t repairable in the short time between the two events.
