Tim Mullen will start the FIA GT race at Paul Ricard from the front row of the grid tomorrow after a stunning performance in today’s qualifying session. This gives Tim and his team-mate Chris Niarchos an excellent chance in the race and will of course do no damage to Niarchos’ fight for the Citation Cup.

Andrew Kirkaldy and Rob Bell got the news this morning that they are now in the fight for the GT2 Driver’s Championship after all the Porsches were excluded from the results of the Spa 24 Hours (due to non-conformity with homologation papers). This means that the No.56 CRS Ferrari actually took second place at Spa and it boosts Kirkaldy and Bell to third place in the driver’s standings. It also means that CRS Racing is now just seven points behind Prospeed in the fight for the runner up spot in the GT2 Team Championship.

Talking after qualifying Tim Mullen said: “I’m pleased with today’s result. I’ve had a few second places this year and I just missed pole by a tenth this time. Maybe Gimmi (Bruni) will let me have pole at Zolder! Our car was fast yesterday and the mechanics and engineers have worked hard to make it right so well done to them. I finished in second place the last time I raced here and I love the track – it’s the kind of track these cars were made for – so I hope we can get a good result tomorrow.”

The FIA GT3 Championship is also running at Ricard. The qualifying sessions took place earlier today and saw Phil Quaife take the honours as fastest Ferrari in session one with his eighth place qualifying spot. The CRS GT3 Ferraris will line up in eighth and 26th for this evening’s one-hour race. Tomorrow’s second GT3 race will see them in 17th and 19th on the grid.

The FIA GT race will be shown on Motors TV in the UK. It is a delayed broadcast, starting at 1600hrs.
