This weekend, the teams entered in the Le Mans Series will be at Silverstone in Great Britain for the final round of the season. The G.A.C Racing Team is determined to finish in the first three in the race, and is aiming for third place in the 2009 LM P2 category classification.
In the Nürburgring 1000kms in Germany at the end of August, the Swiss team bagged 4 points thanks to an unexpected fifth place in a race that was full of upsets right up till the dying seconds.
While Le Mans is the cradle of endurance racing, Silverstone, which is hosting this weekend’s event, is the home of British motor sport. All the drivers love the very quick Northampton track laid out on a former air base.
“Personally, it’s a circuit that I really like. It’s particularly demanding because of the high speeds we reach in some of the corners like Copse, Beckett’s and Stowe,” says Karim Ojjeh. He will again team up with Claude-Yves Gosselin and Philipp Peter for the final race.
After the Nürburgring, the Zytek S07 was completely dismantled and revised in the team’s workshop in Caen in Normandy. The no.41 prototype should be particularly at home on the Silverstone layout. “In Germany, we qualified second on the grid in LM P2. If we find the right setup in practice we should be among the front-runners in England,” summed up Karim. “We’ll be aiming for a place in the first three in the race and third place in the overall LM P2 classification.”
The G.A.C Racing team has bagged 11 points in 4 races and is well placed to finish in the first three in the teams’ classification in LM P2, provided that the luck the Swiss outfit has enjoyed in the second part of the season does not desert it at Silverstone.
