Joel Camathias has shone in his ‘almost-home’ event of the International GT Open in Monza, obtaining in Race-1 on Saturday the best overall result of the year (8th) for the pair formed with Mario Cordoni at the wheel of the Ombra Ferrari F458 GT3. The Swiss driver performed a brilliant race: after a good qualifying and an excellent start, he ran in fourth position for most of his stint. After the pit stop, Mario Cordoni also did a very good job, staying in the top positions and finishing 8th overall and 6th in GTS.

Unfortunately, things went differently in Race-2 on Sunday, on a wet track. Mario Cordoni was hit by another car in lap 4 and forced to retirement following suspension damage. The pair is now determined to finish the season on another high in Barcelona next 9-10 November.

Joël Camathias: “It has been a double-face weekend. On Saturday, everything went really well and we were quite competitive. We managed to find a good balance for the car and qualify well. At the start, I took fourth and kept it for a long while, always keeping a good pace. Mario also has been quite effective and eventually we conquered the first points of the year as a pair in the overall standings as a pair. Strangely enough, this didn’t bring points in the GTS class, as we had five other GTS cars in front of us. On Sunday, everything was over pretty quickly, because of the aggressiveness of a rival. Things that happen, but we are quite happy as we leave Monza.”
