Villorba Corse and Andrea Montermini increased their leadership in the International GT Open after race-1 of the seventh round of the season at Monza. The Italian team led by Raimondo Amadio gained valuable points both for overall and Super GT standings thanks to an exciting Super GT win (and a sixth position overall) despite a 45-second handicap to be paid during the mandatory pit-stop when Montermini left the wheel of their Ferrari 458 GT2 to Davide Rigon.
Started from the front row, Montermini took the lead on lap 2 and dominated the first half of race-1. Rigon was back on track in 13th place and after a great comeback he brought the Villorba crew in 6th position overall winning the Super GT class with the fastest lap of the race.
At Monza the race weekend will end tomorrow, when the Villorba Ferrari will start race-2 from the first row again. The race is to be held on Sunday, October 6 at 12:10 and will be broadcasted live on www.gtopen.net (clicking on WEB TV) and throughout Europe on Motors TV (at 11:10 in the UK) and on other national networks (RaiSport 2 in Italy).
“Everything went as planned today - says Raimondo Amadio, Team Principal -. Qualifying confirmed our team’s excellent work and the perfect setup of the car. In the race, the drivers were able to give their best and, despite a very high handicap time, to clinch a crucial result which now allows us to be confident for race-2.”
