The International GT Open stops this weekend at Monza, for one of its most traditional events, the seventh in the 2013 calendar. For the occasion, Joel Camathias will be partnering again with his usual team-mate, Mario Cordoni, at the wheel of the Ferrari F458 GT3 of Italian squad Ombra Racing. The outfit has been growing throughout the season and will aim at some good result in the crowded and ultra-competitive GTS class on the legendary Lombardy track.
For Joel, Monza is always the closest thing to a ‘home race’, and the Swiss is aiming at racing in front of family, friends and fans.
Joël Camathias: “Monza is always special to me. First of all, because it is very close to home, so a number of family, friends and supporters always come to see me racing, and the atmosphere is always so friendly. On top, it’s a fabulous speed track that every driver enjoys, and a circuit where you can almost touch motorsports’ history. It’s definitely home race for the team, and Mario is very anxious to be back behind of the wheel, so I think we can enjoy the weekend and do well, although the GTS class is the most crowded and competitive. Our package has been growing constantly throughout the season, as proven in the two rounds I raced with Stefano Costantini clinching two podiums and another two top-5 finishes, so we can aim at being in the points.”
