French team OAK Racing is happy and proud to welcome back Cong Fu Cheng. The Chinese driver will team up with David Cheng and Jeffrey Lee in the no. 24 Morgan LM P2 for the second round of the Asian Le Mans Series, the Fuji 3 Hours, on 22nd September.
The team has already run Cong Fu Cheng. This was in 2008 in LM P2 and he was the first Chinese driver to race in the Le Mans 24 Hours and to score a top-3 finish! At the time OAK Racing was called Saulnier Racing. It was also the team’s first Le Mans 24-Hours top-3 finish, which was soon followed by several others in this category culminating in a fantastic double this year!
Cheng then went on to compete in LM P1 with Rebellion Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2012 and this year. Before that he showed his speed on international circuits in single-seaters in the F3 Euro Series, A1 GP for Team China, and GT with AMG-Mercedes-Benz and Audi-China.
In the absence of Ho Pin Tung racing in the Asian Porsche Cup (PCCA), Cheng will bring his support and experience to young Chinese driver, David Cheng, and Jeffrey Lee from Taiwan: their aim will be the topmost step of the podium after their second place in Inje. Thus, the driver line-up is still 100 per cent Asian in keeping with the wishes of OAK Racing and its partner, Total Lubricants China.
CONG FU CHENG, Chinese driver no. 24, OAK Racing, Morgan LM P2: “I would like say a big thanks to OAK Racing for the chance the OAK Racing Team TOTAL has offered to me in the Asian Le Mans Series race at Fuji. It has been five years since the last time I drove the OAK Racing LMP2 car when It went very well at Le Mans with third position in its category. I am very much looking forward to driving again at the Fuji Speedway, which is a very challenging circuit with very fast first and second sectors and a quite slow and twist last sector, The top speed is very high. The last time I drove there was in an Audi R8 GT3 car. For sure an LM P2 car will be a lot of fun in the quick corners, and of course together with my team-mates David Cheng and Jeffrey Lee we will push to win the race!”
JEFFREY LEE, Taiwan driver in the no. 24, OAK Racing, Morgan LM P2: “I am very excited to return to this fast and flowing track with the top level GT in Japan and Asian Le Mans Series. It’s not an easy track to overtake on with all the high-speed corners. For sure the drivers will have to be fit to face the constant high g-force and concentration. The weather is always unpredictable here like Inje. We will have to be prepared and adapt quickly. Hopefully we will achieve good results like the last time I was driving here in GT3 Asia.”
