Excellent weekend for Joel Camathias at Spa-Francorchamps, where was held the sixth round of the International GT Open. On the legendary Belgian track, the Swiss driver has obtained a fifth in Race-1 and a third in Race-2, climbing on the podium for the second time this season. As in Jerez, where came the first podium finish, Joel was associated with Stefano Costantini at the wheel of the Ombra Racing Ferrari F458 GT3, given the unavailability of Mario Cordoni.
The two have performed two great races, always attacking, and despite a penalty in each race and the changing weather conditions, so typical of Spa, they achieved the top five in both races, demonstrating the competitiveness reached by the entire package.
Newt weekend, Joel will be at the Hungaroring for the third round of the European Le Mans Series, while the International GT Open will be back on 5-6 October, at Monza.
Joël Camathias: “It was a good weekend, with good results, and most of all, I had fun! The car was very good and we did a good job with the set-up, although it didn’t really show in qualifying. In Race-1, Stefano took a good start but he was touched and sent into a spin by a rival in the early stages, then we had a stop-and-go because exceeding track limits. We guessed the right moment when to put on the rain tires when it started to rain and I climbed back to fifth. In Race-2, again, we did the right tire choice, going for slicks from the start, and during my stint, the initial one, we were up to fifth overall. Then there was a drive-through for a minor infringement during the pit-stop, but Stefano charged in the final stint and we reached the podium, a result that rewards everyone in the team for the good work done throughout the weekend.”
