With the summer break now over, competition resumes for Joel Camathias, who is campaigning this year both the International GT Open and the European Le Mans Series. Next weekend, the Swiss driver will contest the sixth round of the GT Open, scheduled at Spa-Francorchamps, the legendary track in the Belgian Ardennes considered by all as one of the most beautiful tracks in the world. With Joel’s usual team mate Mario Cordoni taken by a professional engagement, the Swiss will share the wheel of the Ombra Racing Ferrari F458 GT3 with Stefano Costantini, as done in Jerez. The two drivers have quickly put behind them the misunderstanding occurred in Silverstone, when they got in contact in Race 2, and will seek together a good result in a GTS category that remains extremely closely-fought.
Joël Camathias: “Summer holidays are useful to recharge batteries, …but I’m glad they are over. I look forward to be behind the wheel of a racing car again and to do it at Spa, a track which is the favorite of most drivers: fast, exciting and one that requires some courage, to use a nice word. I only have good memories there, including two of my most-cherished wins: the 24 Hours in 2008 and the 1000 Km in 2007. I hope we can do well this time too. Mario Cordoni will not be able to race at Spa, as he has a work engagement that he cannot escape. I will be teaming up with Stefano Costantini, as it already happened at Jerez. We were quite successful there, scoring points in both races and finishing on the podium in Race 1. To repeat that would be great!”
