While the Dunlop 24 Hours of Dubai may be Dunlop’s biggest event in terms of tyre turnover, the Barcelona 24 Hour race comes a close second. Around 75 teams, all on Dunlop rubber, will be competing to win the Spanish endurance epic at the Circuit de Catalunya with Dunlop creating one of its biggest service operations in the calendar. 15 different brands of cars from 13 different nations are due to compete.
Two hours of daytime qualifying and two hours of night qualifying take place on Friday 6th September with the 24 hour race starting at midday on Saturday 7th September.
2012 saw the Lapidus Racing McLaren win the event with an impressive four lap advantage on the competition. The class structure makes the race appealing to many with recognition for a range of GT cars in addition to petrol and diesel touring cars.

Firdos Avari, Project Manger, Car: “This is one of our biggest events in the year. Sudden weather changes are definitely our biggest issue. In Dubai we don’t get the rain whereas in Spain anything can happen. We need to be able to cater for all the different wheel sizes for the different cars but we allocate a specific compound bearing in mind the abrasive nature of the Barcelona circuit. It’s definitely the hardest track on tyres where we have a 24 hour race. We have significant 24 hour race experience as a single brand supplier with tyres from the Dubai 24 hour race and also we supply the International GT Open which races every year on this track.”
