When sports car racing invades the streets of Baltimore this weekend, count on BAR1 Motorsports to be up front and in the fight. It’s the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón racing as part of the Grand Prix of Baltimore. The green flag will drop on the 2 hour feature race Saturday August 31, at 3:45pm ETD with live coverage on ESPN3 and network coverage on ABC, Sunday, September 1 at 12pm ETD.
The driver lineup for this weeks race is Chris Cumming with Kyle Marcelli in the No. 8 Evident Capital ORECA and Tomy Drissi with Rusty Mitchell taking on the driving duties in the No. 7 sister car, sponsored by The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, a new movie starring and directed by Ben Stiller. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty opens in theaters December 25, 2013.
The 2-hour charge through the Baltimore’s Inner Harbor district is as rough and tumble as a sports car race can get. Last year the team emerged from the fight with two cars finishing in the top-5. Drissi and Marcelli won the inaugural race here in 2011, while Drissi shared second with Bruno Junquiera in 2012.
Team owner, Brian Alder, is optimistic of the teams chances heading into the race.
“We are aiming to keep our podium streak alive and optimistic of grabbing our first win.
“We had quick cars earlier in the season at Long Beach. Given the setups are similar for this race, we feel we’re prepared for this event. We are ready for a street fight
“It’s really good to have Tomy back in the No. 7 car. Kyle and Tomy paired together in 2011 to win this event, so both have tasted victory here. Hopfully that will be an advantage for us.”
The ALMS action at the Grand Prix of Baltimore gets underway Friday with a practice session at 8:50am and another at 12:05pm. Qualifying will take place at 4:30pm. Saturday will kick off with a warm-up session at 10:10am, a driver autograph session at 11:00am and the green flag will fly at 3:45pm for the 2 hour main event.
Qualifying can be seen live on ESPN3 as can Saturday’s race. Network coverage will be tape delayed airing Sunday, September 1 at 12pm EDT on ABC.
