John Gaw and Phil Dryburgh went quickest in the first free practice session this morning at Brands Hatch in their PGF-Kinfaun AMR Aston Martin V12 Vantage from Benji Hetherington and Jason Minshaw in the Fortec Mercedes AMG SLS GT3. The Declan Jones and Zoe Wenham Century Motorsport Ginetta G50 was fastest in the GT4 class ahead of free practice two which begins at 13:30 today.
Intitially it was the two 888Optimum BMWs of Joe Osborne and Dan Brown that set the pace, along with the Barwell Motorsport Aston Martin V12 Vantage of Richard Abra.
After a short red flag to clear the FF Corse Ferrari that had spun (with no damage) at Westfield, the Ecurie Ecosse BMW in the hands of Oliver Bryant soon took over at the top of the time sheets, Jonny Adam in the Beechdean AMR Aston Martin and Nick Tandy in the #31 Trackspeed Porsche all pushing forwards and challenging to be quickest.
Barwell Motorsport’s #78 BMW had clutch issues which halted the session early for Piers and Ron Johnson, and the #1 Motorbase Porsche of Ahamd Al Harthy and Michael Caine suffered what looked to be a left rear puncture.
AF Corse’s Griffin looked like he’d finish the 60-minute practice on top, but for a strong effort from Gaw in the GT3 Aston Martin a few minutes before the session end.
FF Corse’s GTC entrants Jacques Duyver and Charlie Hollings were 26th overall, 4.265s ahead of the fastest GT4 entry and 0.36s off the last of the GT3 entries.
