Jan, we are halfway through the season, how do you assess your start?
“Our start to the season has been like a rollercoaster. We have been in some very good positions, but could not turn them into hard results yet. In addition we had some blameless accidents. In Zandvoort we showed our real potential with the 4th position in the main race which was very pleasing.”
How is the partnership with Karun Chandhok going?
“It is nice to share the cockpit with a former F1 driver like Karun. We really work well together. Everybody can learn from each other and it is a nice partnership we have.
How is the development going with the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3? Do you think it will suit Slovakia Ring?
“The Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 is a well-balanced car. For me it is one of the best GT3 cars there is at the moment. It is easy to handle and what is very important is that the car is very good on the Pirelli tyres. As you can see in the endurance races the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 performs very well in speed and durability. For Slovakia Ring we have a good aerodynamic package for mid- and high-speed corners so it should suit us ok. But there are pros-and-cons for every car of course.”
Have you ever been to the Slovakia Ring before?
“Unfortunately I have never been to Slovakia Ring. So it will be the first time for me and also for Karun. But I have heard a lot about the track and it seems very nice and challenging. As preparation I watched a lot of videos and did some work in a simulator. But as soon as you are there everything is different and you just learn it very quickly.”
What are the objectives for next weekend in Slovakia?
“We always fight to be on the podium. But the series is really strong and it is not easy to be in the front all the time. With the Zandvoort performance we made a good step and hope to continue that form and pace. Our race strategy worked well through the races in Holland and we will try for the same at Slovakia Ring.
Are you looking forward to the season finale the Baku World Challenge?
“I am really looking forward to Baku! It is always special to race on a street and non-permanent circuit. I guess this will be a very interesting race for both the teams, drivers and spectators.”
