8Star DP Up to Date … It was a tough day for the 8Star crew in the July 26 Brickyard Grand Prix. The No. 3 team made an engine change after qualifying so started from the back and then dealt with an ill-handling Corvette DP throughout the day to finish eighth. The No. 4 team were running fifth in the late stages of the race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway but a 60-second penalty slowed progress dramatically and the team had to settle for an 11th-place finish. The No. 3 8Star Corvette DP is sixth in the DP team point standings, just seven points out of fifth place and 29 behind the point-leading team.
8Star Driver DP Stats at Road America … Enzo Potolicchio has competed in the GRAND-AM Daytona Prototype races the past two seasons at Road America, starting ninth and finishing eighth in 2011 and starting and finishing second in 2012 … Sarrazin competed in the 2006 ALMS race at Road America, starting ninth and finishing fourth in the GT1 class … Bourdais competed in four Champ Car races at Road America from 2003-07, earning one victory (2007), a second (2003) and two thirds (2004, 2006) and one pole (2007) … This will be Valiante’s first DP race at Road America; he finished second in the ST class of the 2012 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
8Star IMSA Lites Program at Road America … 8Star Motorsports will field three cars this weekend at Road America in the Cooper Tire Prototype Lites Championship. 8Star drivers in the IMSA Development Series races include Christian Potolicchio, team owner Enzo Potolicchio’s 18-year-old son who is currently sixth in the season point standings, and Francesco DeLeonardis, who has competed in the series’ last two events, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Continental Tire Motorsports Park. The first race of the weekend is Saturday, Aug. 10 from 7:45-8:15 a.m. and the second race is Sunday, Aug. 11, from 9:45-10:10 a.m.
Kansas City Here I Come … The 8Star crew will stay on the road between Rolex GRAND-AM Series races at Road America and Kansas Speedway, driving the 607 miles from the track outside Elkhart Lake, Wis., to the track in Kansas City, Kan.
On the Track … Practices are Thursday, Aug. 8 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 9 from 8:00-8:40 a.m. Qualifying is Friday, Aug. 9, from 10:40-10:55 a.m. Green flag for the 2.75-hour race is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10, at 4:00 p.m. (all times Eastern).
For the Fans … The driver autograph session and Fan Walk are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10, from 11:15 a.m.-noon.
