Team rhino’s Leipert Motorsport secured an impressed second place last weekend (12 to 14 July, 2013) at its debut in the GT Open at the Silverstone Circuit in England.
“We are delighted with the sensational result of our two drivers Peter Kox (NL) and Fabian Hamprecht (Hagen)”, said Team Manager Ingo Leipert after their great performance on Sunday. “In the GT Open you have strong teams, cars and drivers at the start line.”
The Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 performed well throughout the entire weekend on the 5.891-kilometre- long circuit in Silverstone. During the free test runs on Thursday and the free practises on Friday the sports car was prepared for the challenging circuit, which is located in Northamptonshire, between London and Birmingham.
“The Silverstone circuit is awesome, as is the entire atmosphere at this high-speed track”, said Fabian Hamprecht during the run-up to the qualifying on Saturday morning.
Temperatures were untypically high when the 18 year-old finished the Qualifying of the GTS class in 10th place with a racing time of 2:03.458 minutes in a strong starting grid. Experienced driver Peter Kox came in second in his Qualifying with a racing time of 2:02.660 minutes.
Ideal conditions therefore for the 70-minute race comprising Ferraris, McLarens, SLSs and Porsches. Fabian Hamprecht started well. His forward thrust, however, was quickly curbed by the preceding Porsche, which lost cooling water at the start of the race. As a result, the Lamborghini’s tyres became greasy and Hamprecht lost his good starting position. Three laps later he got involved in a duel with a Ferrari and could no longer continue due to a crooked track rod at the rear and a damaged upright at the front. Thus, the race was over quickly.
On Sunday, the 10th season race of the exciting International GT Open was scheduled to take place. After Peter Kox had driven a fantastic first race-half, he handed over the Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 to Fabian Hamprecht.
Hamprecht, who has just turned 18, was in second place and couldn’t overtake a Porsche in the GTS class for a very long time which enabled the following SLS to close the wide gap Fabian had already gained. A nerve-wrecking fight between the threesome followed in which Fabian managed to overtake the Porsche whilst the SLS used a gap and managed to overtake the Porsche and the Lamborghini; so, in the end, a happy Fabian Hamprecht crossed the finish line in second place.
Team Manager Ingo Leipert commented: “That was a great start to the International GT Open. We proved that we are internationally competitive with our Lamborghini. The plans for the next International GT Open race have already been finalized. From 06.-08.09.2013 we will start at the Circuit Spa-Francorchamps – the “Ardennes Rollercoaster” – with two Lamborghini Gallardo FL2s.
