An unlucky Saturday for the Spaniard of Kurdish roots in the race of the International GT Open. His Porsche 997 GT3 R lined up by Autorlando Sport experienced engine problems and after just one lap, Tutumlu and Barzani Racing Team had just a chance: to retire.
Isaac Tutumlu and Barzani Racing Team weren ́t lucky over today ́s race of the International GT Open at Silverstone. Tutumlu, behind the wheel of his Porsche 997 GT3 R shared with his new teammate Antonio Spavone, had a positive qualifying session in the morning. The driver with Kurdish ancestry was 6th fastest among almost thirty cars participating in the British round of the Int ́l GT Open.
This result, and also taking into consideration how fast Spavone proved to be in free practice sessions and a shorter handicap time after retiring in Jerez, foretold a podium or, even, a new victory. But, as Tutumlu explained afterwards, “on warm-up lap I noticed some problems. My team told me it could be a problem with a sensor, so I had to continue. But as soon as race was underway I realized something was really wrong. Some cars overtook me on lap one, and then a lap later I was forced to retire”. Apparently, “the problem involves a coupling of the new engine debuting here. It caused a water leak, so… It ́s a real shame because our options to clinch another good result were there. It was a bit frustrating but we know what to do to be back in the fight. There are seven races left and tomorrow, even starting from the back and using an older engines, tomorrow we want to overcome these problems. Personally I ́ll try my best to forget today ́s problems, and a podium would be a good way to do that. We have put a good package and now it ́s time to prove it once again”.
