Taiwanese team AAI-RSTRADA has confirmed the participation of a McLaren 12C GT3 starting in Rounds 5 & 6 of the GT Asia Series at the Fuji International Circuit this coming weekend.
Led by well known Touring Car and GT regular, Chen Jun San and his team of experienced crew, the AAI-RSTRADA is an exciting addition to the International list of drivers in the Series.
Chen, from Taiwan, has been a regular in the Asian Touring Car Series run by Motorsport Asia. In recent years, the 50 year old has participated in Supercar Thailand races as well as the Blancpain Endurance Series in the GT3 Pro-Am Cup.
AAI-RSTRADA will join the highly competitive field of GT3 cars at the Fuji International Circuit this weekend, with their direct competition coming from the pairing of double GT Asia Champion, Mok Weng Sun and former Super GT driver, Hiroshi Hamaguchi, in Clearwater Racing’s McLaren. Also expected to be strong contenders are the current Championship leader and AMR works driver Stefan Muecke, and his partner Frank Yu, young Chinese driver Li Zhi Cong in the Porsche GT3R and of course the trio of Audi’s from Team R8 LMS Ultra, who are sure to benefit from an adjusted Balance of Performance for the Fuji event.
As experienced as the team is, it will be a very tough fight as they enter the Series at the midway mark in the Season.
Team AAI-RSTRADA were in talks with organisers since 2012 for a full season participation for the 2013 Season, but a delay in the delivery of their car meant they were only able to do partial participation in the GT Asia Series for this Season.
The team has also confirmed that they will be making an announcement of a second driver soon.
The GT Asia Series continues with Rounds 5 & 6 at the 4.5km Fuji International Circuit as part of the Super Formula event this 12-14 July 2013. The GT Asia Series Rounds 5 – 10, held at Fuji, Sepang and Zhuhai will mark the start of the AAMC Macau GT Cup, where drivers will also collect points for the Macau GT Championship.
The 2013 GT Asia Series is supported by Yokohama ADVAN, Graham Timekeepers, KW Automotive, AutoArt, Tunewear and RaceRoom.
The GT Asia Series is jointly organised by Motorsport Asia and Supercar Club Hong Kong.
