Gary Johnson – SRT Motorsports Racing Manager

“We’re kind of disappointed. We were hoping for a better showing but we’ll look at data tonight and see if there’s anything we missed and shoot for a good race tomorrow.”

WHAT KINDS OF CHANGES CAN YOU MAKE? CAN YOU MAKE A MAJOR CHASSIS CHANGE AND THROW A DIFFERENT SETUP UNDER THE CARS FOR TOMORROW?

“Well you hate to do that only because you’re not sure what you’re going to get in the race but when you’re starting in the back, sometimes you can take that risk.”

HOW BIG OF A FACTOR WAS THE HEAT TODAY?

“The drivers seem to be okay. The tires degraded a little faster than normal but you’d expect that with temperatures like this.”

Dominik Farnbacher – No. 91 SRT Viper GTS-R Qualified 8th

“I think due to the conditions and the fact we’ve never been here while every other team has experience from the last couple of years, I think we did a good job. We’re not too far off the others; we’re eighth and ninth in qualifying and that’s good. Now we know what we have to work on after the three sessions we had today and that’s what we’re going to do for tomorrow’s warm-up session. We’ll see if we can get close to the front runners. This was probably a little bit like what we had in Laguna Seca, the same situation. In the race at Laguna Seca e were right there and we were competitive.”

ARE YOU TRYING TO FIND MORE GRIP?

“Yes of course. There’s three tire choices you can take: soft, medium and hot. We are still trying to find the right one. I think we’re on the right way. We know where the weak spot is.”

Kuno Wittmer – No. 93 Pennzoil Ultra SRT Viper GTS-R Qualified 9th

“It’s tough coming here when you haven’t tested or raced here. For us it’s always something new coming to a track where the other teams have experience. I think we did reasonably well. We’re within a second of our competitors. These qualifying sessions are so tight and every tenth (of a second) could put you up another three positions. Car characteristics are really good and I think we have a better race car than qualifying car. I think it should be a good race tomorrow. All we have to do is keep our nose clean and do our race.”

DID THE TRACK GET REAL GREASY AND LOSE GRIP WITH THE HEAT?

“The temperature has been pretty stable all day but at any point and time with these temperatures it’s so tough to keep grip underneath you. As that qualifying session went on, I had to pit at one point because I had no more grip left.”
