Joël Camathias and Andrea Bertolini take 4th in the second round of ELMS. JMW Motorsport scored a solid 4thfor the second race in a row at Round Two of the 2013 ELMS held at Imola.
Practice day at Imola threw both rain and shine at the team, who took both in their stride. Fine weather prevailed for the qualifying session which saw Joel Camathias put the JMW Ferrari 458 4thon the grid for Saturday’s 3 hour race.
Joel started the race and bar avoiding the foreseen first corner tussle and later a spinning prototype, had a robust, drama free 1stbefore handing over to Andrea Bertolini. Andrea built on the good start rising to second position. An engine misfire saw Andrea need to reset twice and in doing so lost around 2 minutes. Gone are the days when a couple of minutes are simply soaked up in a 3 Hour or longer race! Soon back on the pace, Andrea was ensuring the sole Dunlop shod GTE car shone.
Joel took the final stint, and without the engine misfire rearing its head again, put in some superb lap times but unfortunately there was not enough time to eat further into the front three and as such the podium eluded the team. Of course, we all know this only makes JMW Motorsport hungrier!
Round Three of the ELMS will take place over 19-20 July at Zeltweg, Austria.
In the meantime, JMW Motorsport’s attention turns to the upcoming Le Mans 24 Hours, with their driver line up to be officially announced shortly.
