Following a crazed race in Long Beach that saw Black Swan Racing’s Tim Pappas drive an impressive come-from-behind battle to sixth, the team heads to next weekend’s rounds of The Pirelli World Challenge in pursuit of their first top five in the series.
Making steady progress with the No. 54 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, running in its inaugural season in North American racing, team manager and driver Tim Pappas has been pleased with the team’s performance so far.
“We knew that the first half of the season would be about learning, and so far we’ve been perfect on our plan,” stated Pappas. “We’ve completed every lap of the 2013 season, and the car hasn’t had a single scratch on it. This was key for us in developing the program, and we’ll take the next steps in Austin.”
Headed to the much anticipated Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, Black Swan Racing will be part of the series’ inaugural visit to the newly built track. Running in conjunction with the Australian V8 Supercar Series, also racing for the first time in the U.S., the Austin area will be treated to its first taste of the Pirelli World Challenge Series’ unique sprint format.
“I’m really looking forward to racing in Austin,” stated Pappas. “Circuit of the Americas is part of a new era in world-class road racing circuits. It features everything: elevation changes, sweeping corners, hard braking zones….you name it. The layout should be strong for the No. 54, and we’re aiming for our first top five.”
The fourth and fifth rounds of Pirelli World Challenge will take place next weekend, May 18-19, with live streaming on world-challengetv.com. Television highlights will be featured on NBC Sports on Sunday, June 16, at 5PM ET.
