Over the past six years, Martin Xie has been growing and developing himself as professional racing driving and has emerged as a rising star in Chinese racing. He started with China’s National Karting Championship in 2007 before taking part in Formula Ford’s Young Driver development program in 2008. He has since raced in numerous series’ including China Formula Challenge Series, China Formula Grand Prix, VW Scirocco R Cup China, Hong Kong Touring Car Championship and CTCC. He has won or podiumed in numerous races, and this year joined Chang’an Ford Racing team as one of their contract drivers.

How did you first hear about Asian LeMans Series?

I started to hear some news about Asian Le Mans Series late last year, and was very excited by the news. I’m really looking forward to the start of the series.

As a Chinese driver, how do you see Asian Le Mans Series? How do you think other Asian drivers will view this new competition?

I think it’s great because we need more races in China, and also more opportunities to compete with foreign drivers. In addition I’m always open to enter competitions outside China as well. I think it’s the same for all other Asian drivers; it’s a great chance for them to get to know China and find out about opportunities in China and the rest of Asia too.

What do you think of Asian Le Mans Series’ rules that make it Pro-Am, and require having at least one Asian driver?

I think it’s very good to organise a race in this way, as all different levels and nationalities of drivers can get the excitement and satisfaction of taking part. And as I said I’m open to all opportunities that can build up my experience even further, especially those that can allow me
explore challenges aboard. Asian Le Mans series is definitely a good one!
