Adverse weather conditions and a wet track didn’t stop Dutch GT racing stalwart Peter Kox from putting the Blancpain Racing Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 on pole position for tomorrow’s Dunlop 12H HUNGARY. In qualifying at the 4.381 kilometres long Hungaroring, Kox posted a fastest lap time of 2:07.850 minutes, which was more than enough to secure the first starting grid position for the race for himself and his team-mates Nico Pronk and Marc Hayek. “It was quite difficult to get the tyres to the right temperatures, because it was so cold outside. For us, this race is mainly a test in race conditions, because our car is brand new, but the performance is really good,” said Kox.
The Cor Euser Racing-Lotus Evora with American Hal Prewitt, German Dirk Schulz and Dutchmen Henk Thijssen and Cor Euser ended up second fastest overall and fastest in the SP3 class, followed by the Red Camel-Jordans.nl-Audi R8 with Australian Ryan McLeod and Dutchmen Ivo Breukers and Henk Thijssen, the latter driving in two cars. Third fastest in SP3 and fourth overall was the Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport-BMW M3 with the all-Turkish line-up of Aytak Biter, Can Artam, Ibrahim Okyay, Levent Kocabiyik and Selcuk Salargil.
A fast lap time by Jean-Michel Gerome in the closing stages of the session saw the Speedlover-Porsche (Jean-Michel Gerome/Philippe Richard/Jesus Diez) claim pole position in the 997 class in fifth place overall. Frenchman Orfeo Cecchin put the EUREC RACING-Renault Clio he is sharing with compatriot Bruno Buccella on top in class A2 and tenth overall while Austrian driver Klaus Kresnik claimed pole in the D1 diesel class with the Red Camel-Jordans.nl-SEAT Leon TDI for himself and his team-mates Ivo Breukers and Australian Aldous Mitchell.
The final action for today is night practice, scheduled from 7 till 8 pm. The race starts tomorrow, Saturday, April 6th, at 8 am and ends twelve hours later.
