The closing round of the GT World Championship, scheduled for India and Korea, was finally held on European soil. The final of the Word Championship in Donington was on the agenda, a final that would bring about a conclusion to the World Championship title and for Enzo Ide a last opportunity to excel. With a fifth place in the English round of the World Championship the promising young West- Flanders based driver equalled his best performance of the year which dated back to the opening round in Nogaro, France. “We had a good weekend, but unfortunately the battle for the title was rather overshadowed by an unsporting incident, an incident which also took on a decisive turn in the title”, Ide commented after the British weekend.

Enzo Ide naturally also enquired about the health conditions of Yelmer Buurman, the driver who was brutally hit by his nearest rival for the world title. “This cannot happen on a circuit, let’s be quite clear about that “, Ide continued. “Apart from that there is little more I can say, but it is a great pity that such an exciting championship should be decided in such a manner.”

On the other hand Ide was delighted with his fifth place at the wheel of the AF Corse Ferrari 458, which he shared for an entire season with the Italian Francesco Castellacci. “To finish the season is such a way is perfect, it gives confidence and perhaps we might have performed even better seeing the race was aborted following the accident and not re-started. I‘m convinced we could have gone one better in the rankings. But all in all we rounded off with a top-5, which is a good deal, and in addition gives us confidence for next season.”

Once again Enzo Ide showed his fighting spirit, with amongst others a brilliant overtaking manoeuvre whereby he overtook two rivals in one fell swoop. “This is my style of racing and I enjoy it!”

Due to business commitments Enzo Ide will regrettably be absent for the Blancpain Endurance Series in Navarra, but might well compete in a race later this autumn.
