With its next event coming up in Baku, Azerbaijan, October 5th till 7th, City Challenge announces an innovation that will make watching the race easier and more entertaining for spectators. The Lumirank system has been exclusively developed by City Challenge, a patent has already been applied for. The purpose of the system is to display the position of a car in the race by means of LED technology. The system is permanently linked to the time-keeping of the race, so that positions can be updated at any time. The display is small, light, 3.5 mm thin and flexible, allowing for easy installation in or on the race car. Bright LEDs make the 180 mm high position figures easy to see.

“In GT or endurance racing, with driver changes and pit stops, it is not always easy for spectators at the track to know which car is in which position,” explains City Challenge CEO Hartmut Beyer. “To help them watch the race and understand what is going on at the track, the Lumirank system is a great innovation.” Motor racing and technology experts have been working on the development of the Lumirank system, which is exclusive for City Challenge to use.

High-quality, water-proof system

The large, 180 mm high position figures are easy to identify. The entire system is water-proof – an important aspect, as there have been plenty of rain races this year already – and features high-quality connectors and cables to ensure reliability and safety. The Lumirank system comes in a solid case that is easy to transport.

The Lumirank system will be used for the first time during the City Challenge GT race on the street circuit in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the first weekend of October. Ten GT cars will be equipped with the system, either with a black or a white display background, to test which solution is most visible. Spectator surveys will also be carried out to get feedback. “We have had very positive feedback on the announcement of our upcoming event and the first teams and drivers have signed up already,” says Hartmut Beyer. “With the Lumirank system, we are glad to offer something special for the spectators.”
